Insert compression molding is also called molding or pressing. Inserts in injection molding include "copper, aluminum, steel, hard dissimilar plastics, ceramics, glass", etc. can be used as insert materials. Insert compression molding products can be interchangeable mold inserts

The process of compression moulding begins with:

• The material is placed into the mould.
• The product is heated until somewhat soft and pliable.
• A hydraulic tool presses the material against the mould.
• Once the material is hardened and has taken shape of the mould it is ejected
• The final products will require additional work, such as cutting away the flashing

• Other products will be ready immediately upon leaving the mould.

  
  

Advantages of compression molding: 

1. No pouring system, less material consumption; 

2. The equipment used is a general press; 

3. The mold is simple, and it can press larger flat plastic products or use multi-cavity molds to press multiple products at one time; 

4. It is beneficial to molding plastics with poor fluidity that are filled with fibers

Disadvantages of compression molding: 

1. Long production cycle and low efficiency;

2. It is not easy to press plastic products with complex shapes and large differences in wall thickness;

3. It is not easy to obtain plastic products with high dimensional accuracy requirements;

4. Plastic products with fine and fragile inserts cannot be pressed.

Materials List

ABS is synthesized from acrylonitrile, butadiene and styrene. Each monomer has different characteristics: acrylonitrile has high strength, thermal and chemical stability; Butadiene has toughness and impact resistance; Styrene is easy to process, high finish and high strength. In terms of morphology, ABS is an amorphous material.

The performance of ABS mainly depends on the ratio of three monomers and the molecular structure of two phases. This allows great flexibility in product design, resulting in hundreds of ABS materials of varying quality on the market. These materials of different qualities have different properties such as medium to high impact resistance, low to high finish, and high temperature deformation.

ABS material has super machinability, appearance characteristics, low creep, good dimensional stability and high impact strength.
