Generally speaking, the shape of the handlebar determines the riding posture. However, even with the same handlebar, riders can use different riding postures, which is most obvious on road vehicles. As a novice of road vehicles, you may have heard that road vehicles are the most suitable bicycles for long-distance riding on flat roads, because the handlebars of road vehicles can provide a variety of riding postures. Here, let's talk about the three most common grip positions of road vehicles: upper grip position, lower grip position and horizontal grip position, and the applicable scenarios corresponding to the three grip positions.

1. Tops

Sitting on the seat, hands forward, naturally grasp the position of the rubber sleeve on the handlebar, which is the upper handlebar position. Upper handlebar position is the most commonly used grip way in road vehicle riding, and it is also considered as the most ergonomic grip way by many people. The upper handlebar is also the easiest to brake and change speed. When riding in cities with complex traffic conditions, it is best to use the upper handlebar to deal with the changeable traffic as quickly as possible. Compared with the lower handlebar position, the upper handlebar position provides a relatively upright upper body riding posture and is more comfortable when cruising at a constant speed. It is also recommended to use the upper handle position when rocking and climbing, because at this time, the body center of gravity is forward, and the hands and shoulders are the same width to ensure greater balance.

It should be noted that the upper handlebar position is less aerodynamic than the lower handlebar position, that is, the wind resistance will be greater. Generally speaking, the upper handlebar position is 3km slower than the lower handlebar position when the output power is the same. In addition, the upper handlebar position is not suitable for high-speed downhill (the speed is more than 55 kmh).

2. Drops

As the name suggests, that is to hold the lower part of the road car bend. The lower grip position is the easiest grip position to control the car, especially in professional drivers; General road car enthusiasts after a period of practice can also be proficient. The lower handlebar position provides the most pneumatic and radical riding posture. If you want to pursue speed, you must use the lower handlebar position. However, the lower handlebar position alone is not enough, and the whole body needs to cooperate to provide the best aerodynamic effect. Specifically, hold the handle position with both hands, while the forearm is parallel to the ground as far as possible, the elbow is 90 degrees, and the shoulder is relaxed without shrinking; Taking these factors into account, the back will naturally be parallel to the ground as much as possible to achieve the best aerodynamic posture.

The lower handle is suitable for high-speed downhill. Remember to hold the brake with both hands. According to the lever principle, when the lower handle holds the brake, the force arm is the largest, and when the same force is used to brake, the brake effect of the lower handle is the best. Pay attention to predict the road condition and brake ahead of time to prevent rollover. Another applicable scene of the lower handlebar position is the flat road sprint, and the most common one is the flat road rocking sprint. This kind of riding posture is used in the sprint of the last 200 meters or so in the bicycle race.
